Candyce Slusher,

I grew up surrounded by six sets of grandparents, and connecting with the Greatest Generation still fills my cup. When I became a nurse in 1995, my heart pulled me toward the people healthcare too often moves past too quickly: the elderly, the frail, and the families trying to care for someone they love without losing themselves.

For three decades, I've worked across home health, assisted living, and non-medical home care. I earned my Assisted Living Management certification from the University of Texas, served on the Board of the Alamo Area Home Care Council for 12 years (including as President), and have volunteered with the Alzheimer's Association for more than fifteen years. As a Master Trainer for the Stress-Busting Program for Family Caregivers, and in 2013 as co-founder of the M.U.S.I.C. Project, I've seen how much good can come from simply sitting with families and bringing something as human as a song into dementia care. I know that journey personally, too. My husband and I cared for my mother-in-law from 2018 until 2025.

Before founding Slusher Consulting in 2020, I built, managed, and sold two home care agencies, so I know what keeps an owner up at night. Since then, I've helped launch more than 100 new Texas agencies and supported over 500 more with policy, operations, marketing, and leadership. I'm honored to receive referrals from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the Texas Association for Home Care & Hospice. I also chair the Private Duty Education Committee for The Alliance for Care at Home, serve on the Community Advisory Board of the UT Health Claude Pepper Research Center, and speak nationally on patient-centered care, RN delegation, professional boundaries, and caregiver self-care.

The impact of losing my mother in 2023 propelled me to become a Certified End of Life Doula. In 2025, I co-founded Alamo Area Hospice because caring well for someone doesn't stop when curative treatment does.

Thirty years in, my reason for doing this work hasn't changed. Behind every compliance question is a family trying to do right by someone they love, and an owner trying to build something that lets them do it well. I don't take a minute of it for granted.
